This presentation will give participants a flavour of what it was like during that period, and the steps taken by the Liberia Government together with the funders to improve the life of Liberians.
Donor funding was difficult to secure for the reconstruction, and funding agencies stipulated various conditions on how the funds were to be used. Even with funds available, there were and are still numerous challenges to overcome.
Paul Wilson, Principal, MCW Consultants Ltd. has been working in this capacity in western Canada for the past five years. Prior to moving out west to Vancouver, Paul had 25 years’ experience in management, engineering, operations and maintenance of large electric utilities with his career at Manitoba Hydro and their subsidiary companies.
While at Manitoba Hydro International, Paul provided project oversight for various projects located in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Liberia, East Timor, Mozambique, and other countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America.
Paul has been active in industry promoting excellence in engineering throughout his career. Some of these activities included: founding member and the past President of the Energy Service Alliance of Manitoba, past board member of the Energy Access Partnership located in South Africa, participation in CIGRE as member of a study Task Force (Long AC Cables), and as a panel member in the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Power System Simulation.
