Technical lecture looking at the replacement of a timber stress laminated arch footbridge

Working on behalf of Forestry England Beaver Bridges was awarded the contract to repair Cannop Cycle and Pedestrian Bridge following a vehicle strike in September 2020.
The scheme consists of the ‘fabrication’ of a replacement stressed laminate timber arch off site. Partial demolition of the existing structure to remove the existing arch and re-erection using the replacement.
Beaver Bridges carried out the partial demolition and re-assembly of the structure during a 48-hour road closure utilising a 100-tonne crane. The replacement arch was lifted in one large section, direct from the transport with the temporary bracing removed once installed.
Parapet repairs and surfacing saw the bridge completed successfully in March 2021.
