18:15-18:30 - Darrren Byrne, Deputy Chief Executive, Membership and Education Services Director IStructE
18:30-18:45 - Short Break
18:45-19:45 - Chris Shaw - Averting Disaster: "How to Save a Collapsing Building".

This will then be followed by a technical presentation from Chris Shaw.

A disaster is the last link in a chain of events.  This presentation is a case study of how a partial collapse of a building was saved from becoming a disaster. It contains a forensic analysis of the events leading up to the partial collapse, and shows how the first link in a chain of events for a building or aviation disaster can occur many years before the disaster actually happens.

The presentation includes an assessment of what to look for, and how a developing chain of events can be identified before it becomes a disaster.
