A technical presentation on understanding the information presented in a ground investigation report and the implications on design.

In the UK we have many locations where poor ground conditions are found coupled with there being a requirement to devise appropriate efficient solutions for those ground conditions. Being able to develop an understanding of the ground from the information presented in a soils investigation report, to make appropriate responsible decisions and to communicate them is key to the success of the civil and structural engineering solutions that we design.

Under the topic 'Interpreting a GI Report', Adrian will offer some approaches and ideas that help to ensure that the risks in the ground are well understood and communicated before commencing with civil or structural design development. Part of the presentation will consider some sub-standard designs that have occurred in the past due to incorrect understanding of the available soils investigation information to illustrate how easily mistakes happen and therefore how they might be avoided.
