Buildoffsite Conference: Exploring innovative offsite solutions

Join the livestream from 15:00 on the day:

We recommended that you watch this livestream on a desktop or laptop as presentation slides cannot currently be viewed on tablet or mobile devices.

Do you work with prefabricated components or buildings? Book now for this event exploring the benefits and challenges of using offsite solutions. Understand how you can use innovative offsite methods to improve your projects.

The ambition is to promote improved awareness of innovative offsite construction enabled projects and to identify the opportunities and challenges from the perspective of the structural engineering community.

The event for 100 plus will take place at The Institution of Structural Engineers and will be the first formal collaboration between the Institution and Buildoffsite. Buildoffsite will encourage its leading members to participate and the Institution will similarly encourage its senior figures to participate.

A small exhibition featuring the innovative work of young engineers will be included.

The event will also be livestreamed – save this link to watch on the day.

Matt Byatt is a Chartered Structural Engineer with over 27 years’ experience spanning both the UK construction industry and offshore oil and gas.  Having previously worked in both consultancy and steel fabrication, Matt is now a Director at Pinnacle Consulting Engineers, based in Norwich, with overall company responsibility for the Energy Sector as well as the Norwich office.

Matt was responsible for taking Pinnacle into the offshore energy sector in 2011 and has built up a portfolio of interesting projects typically specializing in ‘brown field’ modifications, well rejuvenation projects and partial platform decommissioning.  The ‘dirty’ late and end of field life work!

Matt left school at 16 with 6 O Levels and started employment as a trainee accountant with Norfolk County Council.  In 1989 he joined a small engineering practice as a Trainee Structural Technician, studying for BTEC ONC and HNC in Civil Engineering on a day release basis.  Becoming an Incorporated Structural Engineer in 1995, Chartered Engineer in 2005 before being elected a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2015.

Matt has been actively involved in the Institution of Structural Engineers for many years serving on the Executive Board and Council as well as being involved in several panels and committees, including Chairing the Panel responsible for the “Structural Use of Glass in Buildings – 2nd Edition”.  He has served twice as East Anglian Regional Group Chairman.

Liam has a strong commercial and technical and contracts management background  and has been involved in securing and managing a range of significant projects with the company over many years, including the production of the precast segmental linings for the Crossrail C310 Tunnel, Bridge infrastructure for Mersey Gateway and a range of bridge infrastructure for the Reading Viaduct among many more.
He has considerable experience in the Water & Waste Water Sector spanning over thirty years and particularly in the provision of DFMA precast, pre-stressed and posttensioned concrete storage solutions. Today Shay Murtagh are providing many of these solutions to Thames Water at Deephams WwTW in London and on a range of sites with United Utilities PLC.
Liam has championed the company’s involvement in Off Site Construction Solutions and has been leading the Shay Murtagh team in their DFMA, BIM and innovation Journey.
