IStructE 2022 Gold Medallist Naeem Hussain FIStructE presents his address to the Hong Kong Regional Group.

Naeem Hussain will deliver his 2022 Gold Medal address to the Institution’s Hong Kong Regional Group.

Accumulating half a century in the international bridges sector, and instrumental in the establishment of Arup’s highly regarded bridges department, IStructE Gold Medallist Naeem Hussain has worked on some of the world’s most high-profile structures.

An internationally inspiring engineer whose designs combine beautiful form with function, Naeem has made major contributions to bridge design on a global scale, which reflect his background in both architecture and engineering, making him the stand-out candidate for the 2022 award.

Naeem’s work has included the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Shenzhen Bay Bridge in Hong Kong, Brunei Temburong Bridge, the multi award winning Hulme Arch Bridge in Manchester, and the highly acclaimed Queensferry Crossing in Scotland, which was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Major Project Award.

A Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, as well as the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, he was awarded the Prince Philip Medal - the Royal Academy of Engineering’s highest individual award for his ground-breaking work on some of the world’s most iconic bridges. He was inducted into the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame in 2016.

The IStructE Gold Medal is the Institution’s highest individual honour and is awarded for personal contributions to the advancement of structural engineering.
