Eurocode 6: Masonry Design (Birmingham)

Aim

This course provides participants with detailed knowledge of masonry design to Eurocode 6. It will also cover the supporting European Committee for Standardization standards (explaining various parts and coverage) and the National Annexes for Eurocodes (the necessary information to make Eurocode 6 useable in the UK).


Learning outcomes      

By the end of the course, you should be able to:
 
  • Explain design using masonry to Eurocode 6
  • Design for vertical load
  • Design for lateral load
  • Identify and locate relevant information to support your future designs


Tutor

Professor John Roberts is an independent consultant and the Principal of the Technical Innovation Consultancy, which specialises in supporting innovation in construction. He has produced over 50 reports as an expert witness and over 130 papers and publications dealing with aspects of the design and construction of concrete and masonry buildings. He has extensive experience working on British Standards and Codes of Practice, and is a member of the British Standards Institution head committee for Eurocodes.

He currently chairs the UK panel for Eurocode 6 (Masonry) and is the UK Project Team member for the revision of the Code. He is President-elect of the International Masonry Society and Chairman of the International Advisory Panel for Masonry International. He is a Council member of the Institute of Concrete Technology and Chairman of their Examination Committee.

Structural engineers interested in the design of masonry to Eurocode 6.

A civil or structural engineering degree or an equivalent qualification.
