This course focuses on the design and analysis of tall buildings.
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Recognise the performance of tall buildings
- Design effective lateral stability systems for tall buildings
- Demonstrate how to design a tall building under blast or impact loading
- Describe how to design tall buildings for fire safety
- Use different software to analyse tall buildings
- Apply the pertinent design codes
Dr Feng Fu is a Chartered structural engineer, a committee member of Disproportionate Collapse Mitigation of Building Structure Standards and a committee member of Blast Protection of Building Standard, American Society of Civil Engineers. He is an Editorial board member for The Proceedings of Institutions of Civil Engineers, Structures and Buildings.
Dr Fen Fu is currently the Vice Chair of the IStructE North Thames Regional Group, and was involved in the structural fire design and analysis for the tallest building in Western Europe, The Shard. His paper Grenfell Tower Disaster: how did the fire spread so quickly?, published in The Conversation, has attracted 200,000 reads worldwide.
Dr Feng Fu is also the author of three popular textbooks for civil engineers, which cover a broad range of the design issues and topics: Design and Analysis of Tall and Complex Structures, Structural Analysis and Design to Prevent Disproportionate Collapse, and Advanced Modelling Techniques in Structural Design.
