This course covers the design of mass and embedded retaining walls in accordance with Eurocode 7.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Compare and contrast different types of retaining wall
- Calculate the earth and water pressures supported by the retaining wall, using design examples
- Examine the different failure mechanisms applicable to a retaining walls
- Analyse the stability of a retaining wall in accordance to Eurocode 7
David Beadman is a Director of ByrneLooby and has over thirty years’ experience of civil and geotechnical design, specialising in developing economic, buildable solutions for deep basement excavations, combining knowledge of retaining wall design, structural design and construction. He has been responsible for the design of many deep basements in the UK and overseas.

A basic knowledge of engineering principles is assumed, but the course will not require a detailed knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
