This webinar, in collaboration with IDEA StatiCa, will discuss how castellated beam geometries are subject to several limitations that can easily be avoided by applying advanced design methodologies readily accessible in currently available tools.

Castellated beams are widely used structural elements. The obvious advantage offered by their openings is that utilities and services can pass through them without increasing the overall floor height. As such, they can be easily hidden in the ceiling, leading to an aesthetically pleasing result.
 
However, this convenience comes with a cost. The available calculation tools and manufacturing datasheets have geometric limitations due to the underlying calculation methods. In this webinar we will discuss the recent advancements in this field and how the novel CBFEM can be applied to tackle almost any limitation safely. We will explore the available modelling options for the introduction of boundary conditions and their impact on the analysis results. Lastly, we will explore the available types of analysis and their range of application. Specifically, material non-linear (MNA) analysis, geometrically material non-linear analysis with imperfections (GMNIA) and lastly the eigenvalue stability analysis.

Costis Hatzopoulos

Costis Hatzopoulos is a Structural Engineer, graduated from A.U.Th. Polytechnic School of Engineering at 2001. Since then, he has been involved in over 100 structural engineering projects ranging from concrete buildings, monument restoration to industrial design and special structures. He is an expert in FEA analysis and seismic design with a broad knowledge of structural analysis software. He has also a big interest in programming languages, and particularly in the development of applications that support the structural design of structures. Costis has been working at IDEA StatiCa UK as the Technical manager since 2019.
