This webinar examines best practices and methods to carry out cost-effective investigations and surveys of ageing concrete buildings built between 1950 and 1985.

The construction industry continues to explore way to redevelop existing structures and reduce the use of new materials, demonstrating its commitment to reducing its environmental impact. By moving towards implementing the circular economy, structural engineers will increasingly be expected to understand how to justify, repair, reuse and repurpose existing concrete buildings.

In this webinar, non-destructive testing technologies are analysed, exploring how they can be a powerful tool for assessing the structural condition of a variety of concrete assets and provide a decisive step-change in inspection performance.

Reasons to attend

  • Further your knowledge and competence in carrying out on-site investigations to generate design information and determine the condition of ageing concrete buildings

  • Find out about the different types of recommended tests and how to carry out surveys in a cost-effective manner

  • Explore the different methods, applications and advantages of carrying out non-destructive testing

Intended for

  • Directors, Managers, SMEs owners

  • Structural Engineers of all levels

  • Architects, Designers, Contractors

Speakers

Jessica has worked on a number of significant repurposing projects, such as Quadrant Arcade, Len House, and Canon Green. She is one of the authors contributing to the recently published IStructE Publication “Circular economy and reuse: guidance for designers”

Andrew Ruck Director, Civic Engineers - Chair

Based in London, Andrew is a Fellow of the IStructE, with 25 years of industry experience. Andrew is well-versed in the use, reuse and reworking of existing buildings, including the appraisal and modification of many 20th-century structures. He also has extensive experience working with contemporary new builds in the UK and internationally. He is a contributing author of various publications, including “Design Engineering Refocused” and the engineering appraisal of Selfridges on Oxford Street in London.
