Pete obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2009 and is now a practicing engineer and R&D lead, sitting on the executive board of Expedition Engineering and the Useful Simple Trust. He played key roles in designing the pioneering ferrocement solar canopy for the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Centre in Athens and the Stockton Infinity footbridge. He was in the engineering team for the award-winning London 2012 Velodrome and has experience across a range of unusual and special structures. Pete is actively involved in a portfolio of R&D programs and strategic engineering consultancy, working with universities, industry and major infrastructure clients to deliver tangible benefits with a particular focus on cost and carbon reduction.

Bringing together construction leaders, this conference focuses on managing risk effectively and creating a safer built environment for all.
This one-day, online course offers an introduction to timber design to Eurocode 5.
This technical lecture explores innovative permanent design solutions that can be adopted to improve buildability and reduce carbon intensive temporary works within facade retention schemes.
Authors of the IStructE’s latest publication will share their vision of what the work of an engineer might look like in the future.
This course takes place as a series of two-hour interactive sessions over three weeks. It introduces EN 1991-1-4 for determining wind actions on structures, outlines the basic principles behind the code and covers each step of the procedure for calculating the wind loads on structures. Attention is given to important features introduced by the UK NA.
This course delivers key advice and guidance on seismic design of structures to Eurocode 8 as well as the application of the Eurocode. Emphasis is placed on reinforced concrete buildings although the concepts are widely applicable.
This one-day, online advanced practical workshop teachs complex timber engineering through worked examples. It encourages problem-solving through teaching tools and group discussion.
This course equips attendees with practical knowledge about structural design with bamboo stems (culms). The course considers aspects of concept design, detailed design and durability by design.
