This course presents an overview of geotechnical design to Eurocode 7, with a focus on structures such as foundations and walls. It will cover why ground and groundwater matter, the geotechnical stages of a project in the context of RIBA stages of work, and allow better interaction with geotechnical specialists.

Dr Paul Morrison is an Arup director and leader of Arup’s Geotechnical Group in London. He has extensive experience of the investigation and interpretation of varied ground conditions as required for delivery of residential, commercial and infrastructure developments in the UK and abroad.
Stuart Pennington is a senior engineer in Arup’s Geotechnical Group in London. He has worked for seventeen years as a geotechnical consultant, locally and internationally, on a wide variety of projects such as residential estates, basements and commercial buildings.
The course is aimed at practising structural engineers who want to develop a better understanding of the design of foundations and walls to Eurocode 7. It is also relevant to candidates sitting The Institution of Structural Engineers Chartered Membership Exam.
Familiarity with Eurocode 0 and limit state design.
