Dr Alessandro Palmeri leads the Structures and Materials Group at Loughborough University. His research focuses on applications of structural dynamics, including bridge, earthquake and wind engineering, and probabilistic methods, including reliability and performance-based design. Dr Giorgio Barone is a lecturer in structural engineering at Loughborough University. His research, expertise and interests include structural dynamics, with emphasis on earthquake and wind engineering, as well as lifecycle engineering and maintenance optimisation of ageing structures.
Civil or structural engineers with an interest in the analysis and design of wind-excited flexible structures, such as chimneys, tall buildings and transmission towers.
This course covers concepts of structural dynamics. It complements the Wind Loading on Structures to EN1991-1-4 course, which covers the basic principles underlying EN 1991-1-4. Participants may find it beneficial to have some familiarity with the fundamental concepts of structural dynamics, Fourier analysis and matrix calculations.
