The structural Eurocodes, EN 1990 - EN 1999 are used around the globe by over 500,000 engineers for the design of buildings and civil engineering works.
The first generation of the Eurocodes was published between 2002-2007 and implemented around 2010. For the past decade an extensive international programme of work has been undertaken to develop the second generation of the Eurocodes – the largest ever standardisation programme of its kind.
The first new standards have been released to national standards bodies and the release of the remaining document is scheduled to occur over the next three years.
As Chair of CEN/TC 250, Professor Steve Denton has been leading the evolution of the Eurocodes. He has recently been unanimously re-elected by European states as Chair of CEN/TC 250 for an unprecedented fourth 3-year term. Recognising the extensive international use of the Eurocodes and their influence on other standards, Professor Denton is taking the opportunity of a visit to India to share the latest developments, explain why design standards are so important, set out the background and process for the evolution of the Eurocodes, and discuss timescales for the transition.
This event offers a unique opportunity to hear from an internationally recognised bridge engineer who is one of the foremost global experts in design standardisation.

He has a strong track record of research and innovation, and has been responsible for many technically pioneering projects.
Steve is the Chair of CEN/TC 250, the committee with overall international responsibility for the standards for all structural and geotechnical design across Europe, known as the Eurocodes, which are also being adopted by many countries around the world. He sits on numerous other national and international committees and steering groups.
Steve is a Visiting Professor at the University of Bath and formally held a Junior Research Fellowship at Cambridge University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and also of the ICE and IStructE. Steve is regularly invited to give lectures around the world and has published extensively.
