The Midland Counties Young Members Group will be holding a technical online talk on research into 3D printing of steel structures.

Zeina Al-Nabulsi is currently a PhD degree candidate at the University of Warwick’s School of Engineering. Her research is on the potential of metal 3D printing, and she strongly believes that this exciting method of manufacture can be used for full-sized steel components is the future.’

Speaker

Zeina Al-Nabulsi
In 2019, Zeina received a Commendation Research Award in the Structural Engineering Awards, organised by the Midland Counties Regional Group, for a research paper ‘The Potential for Metal 3-D printing in structural engineering’.

Zeina's studies are supervised by Professor J. Toby Mottram, and is carried out in collaboration, with WMG (for the XCT scans for quality assurance), RAMlab, Steelo and Autodesk for the printing of steel materials.

So far, Zeina has participated in various conferences and training events, in Norway, London (IABSE), US (ASTM Conference), Australia (WSU) and China, including the Future Engineers’ Leadership and Innovation Academy – funded by the British Council.

In addition to her full academic and professional involvement, Zeina is a STEM ambassador and for five years has been an active member of the Midland Counties Young Members Group of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
