A hybrid technical meeting about the influence of infrastructure.

Bridges form critical components of both built and natural environments, they are highly visible forms that have a significant impact on their location. But all too often, bridges are primarily considered mainly as objects.

Bridges have the ability to change the way people live their lives. Designed with care and respect, they define places, improve connectivity, support the economy, and build legacies which reflect the values of the people who use them.

As we build our response to the climate emergency, we must shift the view from object to tool, from input to output, from product to effect. As infrastructure designers, we have the opportunity - perhaps even the obligation - to use the significant influence that bridges have as a tool for change.

Speaker

Tom Osborne, Director, Knight Architect
Tom has specialised exclusively in bridge and infrastructure design for the past fifteen years and currently leads Knight Architects' strategic development in the UK and Global markets.

Tom is passionate about the drive to Net Zero, particularly how infrastructure can instigate sustainable ways of living. He is a Design Council Expert, sits on the IABSE Executive Committee and ICE's Knowledge Network.

Tom believes that good design is created through a collaborative response to people and place.
