Stay Safe or Court Disaster

Construction collapses and fatalities have causes and our speaker Jan Andresen will look at the work of HM Specialist Inspectors, the HSE and take us through a series of technical case-studies into incidents and collapses in the UK construction industry.
The talk will give a very brief overview of what the role of HSE is and the parts of the legislation it enforces that are of the greatest relevance to members.
The speaker will use 3 or 4 case studies where the information provided was either unclear or not acted on correctly and as part of the investigation, the actions of the professionals involved came under scrutiny.
Jan Andresen a Chartered Structural Engineer, worked for Consulting Engineers in the private sector and in a contractor’s design office. Since 2002 he has been a specialist inspector in HSE and for the last 5 years have managed the southern team of specialists. The role involves giving technical backup to inspectors, assisting with complicated investigations, training, liaising with outside bodies and giving expert evidence in Court.
