The Black Art of Geotechnics (Part 2) Slope Assessment and Design

The talk will provide an overview of slopes, looking at their construction and common stability problems that can occur. Revealing some of the ‘black arts of geotechnics’ the talk will look at how we go about assessing slope stability and developing remedial solutions to resolve the problems encountered. The talk will include a number of case studies that the presenter has worked on, covering different remedial techniques and explaining how these affected the design.
David Jowett is Associate Director at Byrne Looby’s Manchester office with over fifteen years consultancy experience primarily in geotechnics and engineering geology.

He has specialist experience in slope stability assessments and the design of slope remediation/protection measures for infrastructure assets.

During his career David has worked on a wide range of projects in the UK and overseas including rail, highways, energy, landfill, flood defence schemes and dockside developments. David leads Byrne Looby’s Manchester team taking responsibility for the office’s geotechnical output.
