London Wall Place Development

This presentation provides an insight into the challenges which drove the design of London Wall Place’s two landmark buildings, and the innovative solutions produced in response. The challenges included massive cantilevers, obstructions below ground and a viewing corridor for St. Paul’s Cathedral.
London Wall Place is a 500,000ft2 premium commercial development located at the heart of the City of London, designed by WSP and MAKE architects.

The development consists of two new landmark buildings which replaced a 1960s podium and a vacant tower. A series of new bridges link both buildings with the surrounding infrastructure. The new development sits within the existing basement boundary which presented challenges to the structural team and required innovative engineering solutions.

Najwa Jawahar graduated from the University of Leeds in 2011 and joined WSP as a Graduate Engineer.

In her 6 year career so far she has worked on some high profile complex projects, including Merchant Square Development, Paddington; New Providence Wharf, Canary Wharf; London Wall Place and Key bridge house Development.

Najwa was one of the Engineers on the London Wall Place and responsible for the design of the 5.4m deep, complex truss system supporting a 16 storey building, allowing it to hang over an 11m pedestrian clear space on the ground floor. She was also heavily involved with the design of basement box and 2LWP superstructure.
