Advances in Parametric Modelling and Digital Design of Structures

This evening presentation, hosted by the School of Science and Engineering, University of Dundee, is a great opportunity to hear about how digital tools are shaping the new way for architects and engineers in the field of structural design and BIM modelling.

Speaker:
Matthew Tam is an architectural designer based in Vienna.  As part of the Advanced Geometry department at Bollinger+Grohmann engineers he works at the interface of architectural, structural and computational design. Matthew received his Master in Architecture from the University of Applied Arts Vienna and a Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of Melbourne. As core of the Karamba3D team, he regularly leads workshops on digital design having taught at the UC Bartlett, TU Innsbruck, TU Graz and University of Applied Arts Vienna.

Karamba3D is a parametric structural engineering tool which provides accurate analysis of spatial trusses, frames and shells, fully embedded in the parametric design environment of Grasshopper and Rhinoceros. This makes it easy to combine parameterized geometric models, finite element calculations and optimization algorithms like Galapagos. Karamba3d is being developed by Clemens Preisinger in cooperation with Bollinger + Grohmann Engineers in Vienna.
