Trees in the Built Environment

A talk by David Cashman from Barrell Tree Consultancy.

David will provide an insight into the latest thinking on how trees are managed; particularly within the planning system, where expert knowledge can unlock the full potential of a site and work with the natural environment. He will also share some of the construction methods that can be employed to minimise the damage to trees when working nearby.

About our speaker:
David joined Barrell Tree Care in 2003 and is a Fellow of the Arboricultral Association. He first worked as Arborist with the London Borough of Sutton in 1979 and has spent time in private practice and as a council tree officer, including the New Forest District Council. This experience is particularly useful when working with council planners.

Notable projects include the negotiations that allowed the construction of the Chewton Glen tree houses set within a strip of protected mature oak woodland that had to be retained without adverse impact. He was also involved in the challenging public realm refurbishment in London’s Liecester Square. He oversaw the tree protection works to the centerpiece London plane trees ensuring they were sucesfully retained to complement the hard landscaping improvements. David is also currently overseeing a sensitive project to construct a security wall along Piccadily adjacent to Green Park in London.
