Benefit from Confidential Reporting on Structural Safety

The Surrey Regional Group is holding the first Technical Meeting after the summer break on Monday 10 September 2018 in the Conference Centre at the Atkins Woodcote Grove office, where Paul Mc Nulty will talk about a confidential reporting scheme for safety in construction.

CROSS (Confidential Reporting on Structural Safety) is a confidential reporting scheme for safety matters concerned with the design, construction and use of structures. CROSS was established to share lessons learned which might not otherwise have had formal recognition.

Reports submitted to CROSS are completely confidential – names of reporters are confidential and identifying features from event descriptions are removed.

CROSS maintains a database of anonymised reports and publishes quarterly CROSS Newsletters containing anonymised reports with comments from the CROSS Panel of experts. When a trend is detected, action is taken to influence changes in culture and, when possible, in standards or legislation.

The presentation will discuss the benefits of CROSS and will include examples of concerns submitted to CROSS about the design, construction and use of structures.
SPEAKER: Paul Mc Nulty MEng PhD CEng MICE
Paul is a Senior Engineer at Structural-Safety, the organisation which encompasses SCOSS (Standing Committee on Structural Safety) and CROSS (Confidential Reporting on Structural Safety).
