Concrete and Fire

Surrey Regional Group will be holding the Technical Meeting on Monday 11 February 2019 at the University of Surrey, where Jenny Burridge about the behaviour of concrete structures in fire.

Concrete performs very well in fire as it doesn’t burn, doesn’t melt and provides excellent insulation and integrity against heat and flame spread. But it is still worth structural engineers knowing about the performance of concrete in a fire, how to specify a concrete that will be less liable to spalling and how to go beyond the tabulated data in Eurocode 2.

The presentation will also include a couple of case studies of how concrete structures have performed in a real fire and what can be learnt from these.
