Design of High-Rise Modular Construction

The Surrey Regional Group's next Technical Meeting will be held on Monday 20 May 2019 at the University of Surrey, where Mark Lawson will talk about the latest industry trends in modular building construction.
Modular construction using volumetric units is a new way of building for which there are no specific design or execution standards other than for the materials that are used in the modular structure.
This presentation will present case studies on the design and construction of recent modular buildings, and particularly high-rise residential buildings, to show how their design has evolved taking account of comparable standards.
The talk will cover aspects of manufacturing and installation, connections, robustness and stability, including use of equivalent horizontal forces.
The use of modular construction in other countries will also be presented together with some information of manufacturing and construction practice.
