SuDs in Wales 2019

From 7th January 2019, proposed new developments in Wales must be served by Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDs).

The National SuDs standards in Wales will become mandatory and all designs will need to be approved by the local SuDs Approval Body (SAB).

The standards promote the use of ‘soft’ or above ground SuDs features.

SABs will have more power and influence on drainage strategies and development masterplans. What impact will this have on future development proposals?

This lecture discusses the principles of Sustainable drainage and reviews the potential changes as result of the new SuDs legislation, looking particularly the issues and potential benefits to the future development schemes in Wales.
