Speaker

Andrew Bond graduated from Cambridge University with 1st Class honours in 1981 and completed his Masters and Doctorate at Imperial College, winning the 1989 Unwin Prize for his PhD on The behaviour of displacement piles in overconsolidated clay. He created the Imperial College Pile, which has been a mainstay of piling research at the college ever since.

As Chair of the European Standards Committee TC250/SC7 from 2010-19, Andrew set the direction for the second generation of Eurocode 7, to be published in the mid-2020s. In 2015, he wrote new versions of the codes of practice for foundations (BS 8004) and retaining structures (BS 8002) for British Standards Institution. He made major contributions to the Arcelor Piling Handbook (9th edition) for sheet pile retaining walls.
