This is the second in a series of technical lectures on the Building Safety Act and its impact on the wider industry. This session will focus on competencies, and cover how the BSA defines competency, how structural engineers can demonstrate this and provide an overview of the Higher Risk Building competency register for structural engineers.
Note that this will be one of a series of BSA-related CPD sessions through 2025
Chris O’Regan, BEng (Hons) CEng FIStructE FICE
Associate Director at Mason Navarro Pledge
Chris has been working within the field of structural engineering since 1987 and has been a Chartered Structural Engineer for 25 years. His experience is primarily in building structures, which led him to become involved with the Engineering Council by being part of Working Group 1, an advisory panel to various government bodies as the Building Safety Act was being developed in 2018 to 2022. Since the passing of the act, Chris has now focused his attention on competency for practicing structural engineers, specifically on their ability to advise on the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and demolition of Higher Risk Buildings. Chris is the current Chair of the Joint Committee for the HRB Competency Registration for structural engineers and technicians.
