Not many people know what went into winning the Olympic bid and creating the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.

The London 2012 Olympic Stadium was the iconic centrepiece of the 2012 Olympics and was the venue of many of the sporting highlights of the games and has continued to serve as an excellent sporting venue since the Olympics.

Derek Mason will go through his involvement in the project, where he led the team that did the independent structural engineering check of the stadium for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and how he saw the application of the seven essential principles to running a successful project were applied to the creation of the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.

Derek is a Chartered Structural Engineer with 35 years’ experience in structural engineering.  

He is also a registered Professional Engineer in South Africa and has worked on projects of various sizes and complexity in various parts of Africa and has worked in the UK since 1998.

Derek is the founding Director of the multi-award-winning niche structural engineering consultancy, Super Structures Associates Limited.
