We are uniting structural engineers, architects and project stakeholders to explore the successes and challenges of constructing nine iconic structures across the world.

The first joint international conference organised by the Institution of Structural Engineers and the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) of ASCE explores the themes of collaboration, efficiency and safety in global engineering projects.

We live in a world complicated by the many standards and codes on which we base our designs, and where the competences and experiences of built environment professionals have been tested, certified, licensed and accredited to different benchmarks. Traditional materials are being pushed to new levels of exposure and performance and innovative materials are being adopted without benefit of evaluation of historic performance.

Transfer of knowledge is an essential element in our ability to meet the future demands and expectations in the countries where we live and work. Join us in Dubai for a conference where keynote speakers and in-depth panels will explore nine different iconic structures to compare what worked well, what challenges were faced and what the project team might do differently next time.

View the two day agenda

Keynote speakers will share experiences across three complex building styles:

  • performance based design of tall buildings
  • high public volume occupancy
  • unusual structures (where typical codes do not apply).

Interactive panel discussions will explore differing international design and construction demands working towards finding globally connected solutions.

Some of the structures featured will include:

  • Singapore Sports Hub
  • Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
  • Dubai Museum of the Future
  • London Eye
  • Vegas High Roller
  • Dubai Frame
  • Jeddah Tower
  • Salesforce Tower
  • Shanghai Tower
