Talk on the Turkey earthquake disaster and seismic design.

Two major, devastating earthquakes struck Turkey on 06 February 2023. Following the events, EEFIT organised a reconnaissance mission to the affected areas in March 2023. The speaker, Ozcan Gozenoglu, was one of those selected for the mission. Ozcan will be sharing his findings and the lessons that can be learned from such a tragic event.

He will also discuss seismic design principles and how they can help mitigate the impact of future earthquakes.

Speaker

Ozcan Gozenoglu - Arup

Ozcan is a Chartered Structural Engineer (CEng MIStructE) with over 20 years of international experience. He has worked in Turkey, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Russia, and is currently an Associate at Arup in Cardiff, UK.

Ozcan specialises in the design of seismic resistant structures and has contributed to major projects in various earthquake prone regions around the world. Following the catastrophic earthquakes in Turkey on 06 February 2023, he was selected by the Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT) to participate in a reconnaissance mission to the affected areas in March 2023.
