The Sherborne gridshell is a fully glazed, glue-laminated oak gridshell located directly adjacent to a listed manor house. The structure forms part of a wider restoration project undertaken by Momentum for a private client.
The design was a careful balance of structural optimisation with site constraints and architectural intent, but also material and fabrication choices. The roof is entirely glazed, and all connections were carefully designed and detailed to be fully visible.
Joe Garbett, Associate Director at Momentum, will discuss the technical challenges and solutions in delivering this innovative timber gridshell, including the process of fabrication and construction undertaken by Xylotek in close collaboration with Momentum.
