Passive House principles and contemporary architecture. A look at the state of the art and integrated design for structural engineers.

An overview of the principles of passive house/energy efficient design and the application to low rise contemporary architecture. A look at the systems used and how the design of structural elements are integrated with the architecture and building services. Some typical concepts of structural design used in this type of architecture will be explored by way of example. A sharing of experience gained to help the audience tackle this emerging method of construction.

George Holland, Director, Element Structures
Having originally studied mechanical engineering and after a short period of work in building services engineering George made the leap into structures. For the last 13 years he has been practising in the small to medium sized structural engineering consultancy specialising in boutique contemporary architecture. Having moved to the west country he has become immersed in the local vernacular of passive house construction.
