fib Bulletin 83 “Precast tunnel segments in fibre-reinforced concrete” is now available to purchase from the fib international website.

Reinforced concrete tunnels linings have mostly been traditionally cast in situ, but the development of Tunnel Boring Machines has led to the invention of precast concrete segmental lining technology, which is nowadays one of the most promising applications of Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC). A number of large tunnels have already been built around the World with FRC precast linings, and this report presents the experience acquired with these projects, and also provides guidance about the way to apply 2010 fib Model Code recommendations on FRC to these structures. The main drivers of this evolution from RC to FRC are better ductility, more durability, and easier fabrication and construction process.

fib Bulletin 80 “Partial factor methods for existing concrete structures” is now available to purchase from the fib international website.

Although the last decades reliability-based assessment of existing concrete structures has gained wide attention in the research field, a consistent reliability-based assessment framework and a practically applicable codified approach which is compatible with the Eurocodes and accessible for common structural engineering problems in everyday practice is currently missing. Hence, in this bulletin two different partial factor formats are elaborated, i.e. the Design Value Method (DVM) and the Adjusted Partial Factor Method (APFM), enabling the incorporation of specific reliability related aspects for existing structures. This bulletin provides a basis for decision making regarding the target safety level of existing structures.

fib Bulletin 76 “Benchmarking of deemed-to-satisfy provisions in standards - Durability of reinforced concrete structures exposed to chlorides” is now available for purchase from the fib secretariat
This bulletin presents the benchmarking of a number of rules for chloride-induced corrosion as given in national codes such as European, US and Australian standards.

It determines the reliability ranges in the chloride-induced depassivation of rebar and provides a reliable database for the performance-based probabilistic service-life design of concrete structures exposed to chlorides.

fib Bulletin 78 “Precast-concrete buildings in seismic areas” is now available for purchase from the fib secretariat
This bulletin has a broad scope. Rather than being focussed on design issues, this documents treats precast construction under seismic conditions is treated as a whole.

The main principles of seismic design of different structural systems, their behaviour and their construction techniques are presented through rules, construction steps and sequences, procedures, and details that should lead to structures complying with the fundamental performance requirements for both major earthquakes and more frequent earthquakes.
