The Construction of Large Modern Water Dams. Discussion on M.A. Coyne's Paper

THE CHAIRMAN (Sir George Humphreys, K.B.E., M.Inst.C.E., President of the British Section of the Societe des Ingenieurs Civils de France), opening the proceedings, drew attention to the fact that the occasion was the 71st ordinary general meeting of the British Section of the Societe des Ingenieurs Civils de France held jointly with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers. To all the members of the two latter Institutions he extended, on behalf of the members of the British Section of the French Societe, a cordial welcome; and he tendered to the Council of the Institution of Civil Engineers the grateful and appreciative thanks of all present for its hospitality and kindness in placing the lecture theatre at their disposal.
