An Investigation of the Behaviour of a Riveted Plate Girder under Load
In an earlier paper the authors described tests which they had carried out on a welded mild-steel plate girder, the overall dimensions of which were 20 ft. 9 in. long by
3 ft. 1 1/4 in. deep. This was a quarter-scale model of 12 ft. deep crane runway girders for the new Margam Steel plant at South Wales, and formed part of an investigation into the stress distribution in mild steel plate girders involving three further girders of similar size which have since been tested; two of welded and one of riveted construction.
