Royal Exchange Theatre; Manchester

The Royal Exchange Theatre opened in September 1976. This paper describes the genesis of the architectural form, the development of the structural design, and the analytical approach to that design. The assessment of the dynamic petformance of the structure, and the subsequent dynamic testing, are described in some detail.
