Use and Misuse of Fuller's Construction for the Analysis of Masonry Arches

Fuller’s construction, published in 1875, has been advocated since then us a method of analysing the stability of masonry arches. This paper highlights a weakness in the original method which does not appear to have been appreciated by other authors and which restricts its validity considerably.
