An Undergraduate Training Project - Construction of a Reinforced Concrete Grandstand

This paper describes a practical training programme carried out by second-year students at the Nanyang Technological Institute, Singapore, which involved the full-scale Construction of a reinforced concrete cantilever-roof grandstand. The objective of this project was to give students direct experience in civil engineering construction and to develop both technical and management skills, which would serve as a foundation for their formal courses in design and construction in the following years.
