Design Resistance of kidney-Shaped, Slotted Connections

Connections incorporating a single, ‘kidney-shaped‘ slot are commonly used for relatively lightly loading bracing connections, although no design rules for their capacity exist. This Technical Note describes a testing programme to investigate the capacity of such details, undertaken as part of the CIMsteel project, and presents the design rules derived from the tests.
