Technical Report Route

The Technical Report Route is designed for candidates who wish to progress to Chartered membership of the Institution, but do not have the required (Masters level) academic qualifications.

The Technical Report Route is divided into two:

  • Route A: For applicants holding a BEng (Hons) degree in structural and/or civil engineering accredited as partially satisfying the academic requirements for Chartered membership (or an equivalent academic qualification). This route is also designed for candidates who are AMIStructE holding an accredited IEng degree or equivalent.
  • Route B: For applicants who do not have accredited academic qualifications. Applicants will usually be expected to have considerable industry experience, attaining a level of competence comparable to that of a Chartered structural engineer.

Note: Candidates without accredited academic qualifications (non accredited degrees and HND and HNC qualifications) or those with IEng accredited degrees will need to undergo an academic assessment to determine whether the Technical Report Route is appropriate.

Associate-Members of the Institution may also be able to submit a Technical Report which will demonstrate that the candidate has the engineering knowledge and understanding that is equivalent to Masters level.
