‘Editor’s choice’ – a new feature from Structures
The Institution is pleased to announce a new feature in the Structures research journal – ‘Editor’s choice’ articles.
Each issue, Editor-in-Chief, Professor Leroy Gardner of Imperial College London, will select one article to be made free to access for six months.
Professor Gardner’s first selection, from Volume 10 (May 2017), is ‘Prediction of Wear in Grouted Connections for Offshore Wind Turbine Generators’ by Paul Dallyn et al. The article proposes a methodology to quantify the likely risk to the foundation integrity of the wear failure mode. The output of the numerical model showed that the accumulated lifetime wear would be minimal in the majority of the grouted connection, i.e. less than 0.4 mm over 75% of the connection, but a much greater loss in thickness, of the order of 4 mm, was predicted at the very top and bottom of the connection.
Other highlights in the May 2017 issue include:
• ‘Full-scale Tests of Stabilized and Unstabilized Extended Single-plate Connections’ by Kristin Thomas et al.
• ‘Splice strength of deformed steel bars embedded in recycled aggregate concrete’ by M. John Robert Prince et al.
