Outstanding Institution People
Congratulations to the winners of the Institution's 2017 People and Papers Awards.
The Awards, held on Thursday 8 June in London, saw Institution President, Ian Firth, present Paper Awards - recognising the best work in The Structural Engineer and research journal, Structures - and People Awards, acknowledging those members who make an outstanding contribution to Institution life.
Those receiving People Awards at the event included:
Lifetime Achievement Awards:
Satish Balkrishna Desai FIStructE (for his dedicated service to the Institution's Southeastern Counties Regional Group, Council, Committees and Panels) and Frank Edward Weare FIStructE (for his dedicated service to the Institution through the Thames Valley Regional Group ,Council, Committees and Panels).

David Knight MIStructE, for his dedicated service in relation to activities for younger members and Roma Agrawal MIStructE, for her dedicated service to promotion of the profession of structural engineering.

Pai Lin Li Travel Award:
Graduate Member, Charlotte Elizabeth Murphy, for her research proposal ‘Designing Bridges for Manufacture and Assembly: Innovative joining technologies of precast concrete elements’.
Kenneth Severn Award: Graduate Member, Amy Cleaves, for her answer to the President's question ‘How should structural engineers balance safety and serviceability requirements with a human desire for elegance and beauty?’
