President installs new SEC Chairman
The 2017 inaugural meeting and dinner of the South East Counties Regional Group was held at the Croydon Park Hotel on 7 March.
The event saw the Institution President, Ian Firth, congratulate last year’s Chairman Jeff Fisher for his excellent work and installed Toby Robinson as the Chairman for 2017. The President and Martin Powell (Chief Executive Officer) addressed the guests on the Institution matters, outlining the main initiatives and recent developments.
During the evening proceeding’s the President presented the following local engineers with their fellowship of the Institution Certificates:
• Tim Pope – Technical Director, Mott MacDonald (Past Chairman of the SEC Regional Group)
• Simon James – Technical Director, AECOM (Past Chairman of the SEC Regional Group)
• Kalaichelvi Navaratnarajah – Technical Director, Mott MacDonald
• Michael Chung – Partner, Hurst Pierce and Malcolm LLP
The meeting also afforded the opportunity to award the student prize to Jack Fletcher from University of Greenwich for his outstanding performance in the Honours Civil Engineering degree course. The student prizes were also awarded to Natasa Banjanac from University of Brighton and Andrew Phillips from London South Bank University who were not present at the event.
Finally, the President presented the certificate to Charles Cocksedge, Director AECOM for the best technical talk titled ‘Reconstructing Victoria Bridge, Bath’ given to the region during 2016. The technical talk described the work carried out in saving the historic 1836 suspension bridge across the river avon in Bath.
