Public Speaking Competition
The Scotland Regional Group's first Graduate and Student Public Speaking Competition was a great success.
The event was held on 15 November at the Lighthouse in Glasgow. The contestants had to deliver a five to seven minute speech on engineering or an engineering related subject. A panel of judges used judging criteria similar to that adopted by TMI international speeches.
Seven young engineers took part. Judges were delighted at the high standard of entries and extremely challenged by having to choose a top three!
First prize of £300 was won by Kirsty Johnston for ‘The science of popcorn’.
Second prize of £150 was won by Juan Bernal-Sanchez for ‘Rubber-soil mixtures (RSm) for the mitigation of earthquake building damage’.
Third prize of £50 was won by Callum Kerr for ‘A structural engineers role in the future of the building industry’.
The runners up.
Everyone agreed the evening had been a great success and looked forward to the 2018 Public Speaking Competition.
Please note: The 2018 Annual Awards Dinner and Dance will be held in the Grand Ballroom, Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow
