The Report of the UK’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, led by Dame Judith Hackitt, was published on 17 May by the UK Government.
The report makes recommendations on the future regulatory system relating to fire safety, in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017.
Chief Executive of the Institution of Structural Engineers, Martin Powell, said:
“The Institution congratulates Dame Hackitt on the timely publication of this crucial and much anticipated document.
“Members will note that the Institution is acknowledged for its contribution to the review: throughout the last ten months we have been working closely with the Construction Industry Council and Dame Hackitt’s team to ensure that the perspective of our professional membership is clearly articulated in this important investigation into public safety.
“Many of the report’s recommendations have potential impact on Institution members, and the Institution’s Engineering Leadership Group will now examine the document to determine where action is required by the Institution, its members and other related stakeholders.
“I would like to thank all those members who have worked with the Institution to ensure a coherent response by the profession to the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower.
"We will provide an update to members, outlining our response to the report, in June.”
