New CPD courses for 2019
We are delighted to announce the launch of our 2019 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme.
Many of you will have already seen the new 2019 Professional Development Courses brochure which was sent out with this month’s The Structural Engineer.
Since we re-launched the CPD courses at the end of 2016, we have been collecting feedback and working to support members’ other CPD needs. As a result, we have greatly increased the range of courses we offer.
For 2019, we wanted to address what we felt were some gaps in the programme, particularly around legal issues that structural engineers face, refurbishment of existing buildings and some training in BIM and computational design. New courses include:
New legal courses
Client Appointments and Terms of Engagement
Client Care and Dealing with Complaints
Dealing with Domestic Clients
The Construction Act: Know your Rights (and your Duties)
New technical courses
Achieving Visual Concrete
Appraisal of Existing Structures
BIM Awareness Training Day
Design of Steel Bridges
Eurocode 8: An Introduction to Seismic Design of Buildings
Eurocode 9: Design of Aluminium Structures
Foundation Design to Eurocode 7 for Small Practitioners
Historic Timber Structures — Assessment and Reuse
Temporary Demountable Structures
Using Computational Design in Practice
IStructE Leadership Development Programme
Larger companies offer employees in-house leadership development programmes, but we wanted to address the needs of firms of up to 250 employees.
Created after extensive consultation through focus groups, the Leadership Development Programme will run over one year, starting in March 2019, with four days of teaching delivered by Faculty from Bath University.
Participants also choose a further three courses from our range of professional guidance courses, so that the programme can be tailored to their own professional development needs, and the needs of their employers. Places will be limited to 20.
More courses to come
Although the 2019 brochure is now printed, we will continue to add new courses during 2019 as we develop them. Keep an eye on our CPD course pages for more information.
We welcome feedback on the programme. If you have comments or suggestions for new courses contact us and we'll be pleased to discuss them with you.
