Chairman's message to East Midlands members
From Robert Moss BEng CEng FIStructE MICE.
It is the start of the 2018 session for the East Midlands Regional Group. I would like to thank the hard-working committee for all their efforts in making last year such a successful period. All the evening seminars and annual events just seem to happen, but it takes a lot of work by only a few people.
This coming year we hope to involve more students and graduates to follow the route to full membership, so we are looking at arranging a few events specifically for our younger members.
Could I ask for your help to encourage graduates in you organisation to sign up to the Institution, and if you know any new engineers embarking on their academic qualifications, suggest that they join as a Student Member. Student Membership is free and enables them to enter the competitions that we sponsor throughout the year, and shows a level of commitment to the profession that always looks good on job applications.
We are already lining up a list of interesting speakers for our technical meetings and I hope you will be able to make the time to attend and show your support. Currently we have the following dates for your diaries, with full details and reminders being sent out closer to the time;
13 March - Lincoln Transport Hub
10 April - Timber Connection Design
11th September - Reinforced Masonry Design
The committee is currently looking for new members, so if you have ever considered putting something back into the Institution I would encourage you to do so. We only meet eight times a year and at the Annual General Meeting, and supporting the Regional Group has many rewards in furthering the standing of the profession. If you want to get involved, or have any suggestions for events in the East Midlands area please drop me an email.
