Nick Russell, Director at Thomasons Ltd, and 2014 President of the Institution of Structural Engineers, gave a presentation in the Devon & Cornwall Regional Group meeting on 30 January 2018.

The meeting was well attended by practicing engineers and students from the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth. During his talk on 'So how can you turn your Graduate into an Engineer?', Nick explored the challenges that our profession faces in helping civil engineering graduates become professional engineers. He looked at this in the context of increasing life expectancy, the digital age and what universities and employers can do in a world of ever-increasing change.

On the following day, Nick gave a presentation on 'Inspiration of Engineering' to the 1st year Civil Engineering students. One student said, 'I really enjoyed the guest speaker. He was truly inspirational and I would really recommend him to next year's first years.'
