Congratulations to Kelly Harrison MIStructE, an Associate at Heyne Tillett Steel.

The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) announced the winners of the Top 50 Women in Engineering: Sustainability awards today, celebrating women who have made a significant contribution within sustainability.

The WE50 theme changes each year to recognise women working in different fields and from varying routes into engineering.

Kelly said:

"I am honoured to have been chosen as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering: Sustainability winners.

"Over the last ten years I have been heavily involved in the research and delivery of sustainable strategies on my projects and am a passionate advocate of sustainable, modern methods of construction.

"Through my work as Timber Lead at Heyne Tillett Steel, my role at TRADA, and participation in talks both in the UK and internationally, I have championed the use of engineered timber to reduce carbon emissions, enhance wellbeing and improve the quality and speed of construction.

"Sharing knowledge and working collaboratively is fundamental in addressing the climate emergency and accomplishing the UK’s commitment to achieve Net Zero carbon by 2050. I am proud that my work has been recognised with this award and would like to congratulate all the winners for championing sustainable engineering solutions and helping to shape a better world."

Elizabeth Donnelly, Chief Executive Officer of the Women’s Engineering Society, explained why WES had chosen the theme of sustainability for 2020.

“The 2019 Climate Emergency Declarations followed unprecedented weather conditions across the planet. Engineers were instrumental in repairing the Toddbrook Dam after it collapsed in August last year, and it will be engineers who will provide many of the solutions needed to address the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. We felt that it was the right time to showcase the amazing women who are already working on these issues.”
